An intense fire, started by unidentified persons in Ilorin, Kwara State, has caused considerable damage, engulfing a section of classrooms at Grace International School in the Tanke vicinity, along with four rooms at the Akumaju compound in the Ita-Amodu area of Ilorin West local government area.
A destructive fire, believed to be intentionally started by unidentified persons, erupted in Ilorin, Kwara State, causing extensive damage to Grace International School in the Tanke area and four rooms at the Akumaju compound in the Ita-Amodu region of Ilorin West local government area. The incident took place between Sunday night and Monday morning, resulting in significant devastation.
The Kwara State Fire Service reported that the fire originated from an undergrowth and refuse dump. At Grace International School, the blaze engulfed nine out of its 14 classrooms. Firefighters promptly responded to the distress call on Sunday evening, demonstrating their expertise and commitment in tackling the inferno. Despite their efforts, a substantial portion of the school infrastructure succumbed to the flames.
According to a statement from Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, investigations revealed that the fire at the school was intentionally ignited by an unidentified individual, quickly spreading to the classrooms. Similarly, a separate fire incident at the Akumaju compound in the Ita-Amodu area, reported in the early hours of Monday, led to the destruction of three out of the six rooms.
Expressing condolences to the victims, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, highlighted the significance of public vigilance and safety awareness. He called on citizens to stay alert to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing the necessity of collective efforts to create a fire-conscious community. Falade also advised the public to exercise caution in their daily activities to reduce the risk of such disasters in the future.
